HP digital publishing solution optimizes recruiting at the University of North Texas.

Company profileUniversity of North Texas (UNT) is the fourth-largest university in Texas, with more than 31,000 students. Located just 40 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth, it is in close proximity to several other colleges.

Just as students face fierce competition to gain acceptance into the college of their choice, many universities – particularly in large metropolitan areas – find themselves in equally intense competition as they attempt to recruit students.

UNT realized the value of recruiting targeted students. In fact, its Admissions Department was the impetus for a major change in the university’s recruiting mail distribution services (RMDS).

Challenge

  • Improve recruiting mail distribution services to target specific groups of potential students and dramatically improve recruiting results.
  • Deliver cost-effective four-color printing for short-run color print jobs.

Solutions
Hardware:

  • Deliver targeted, personalized mailings produced on a HP Indigo 3000 Press.

Software:

  • Utilize HP software to manage variable data.

Results

  • Increased orientation attendance: 5% in transfer students;  15% in first-time students; and 200% in parents.
  • Increased attendance ten-fold in Eagle Camp: From 25 to 250 freshmen.
  • Faster turn-around on print jobs.
  • Optimized use of recruitment budget by printing only what is required, when it is needed.
  • Reduced payback period for HP Indigo Press.
