HP has managed the implementation of SAP R/3 as an enterprise-wide administrative and commercial software platform for gespag, Upper Austria's largest provider of hospital care. The implementation has enabled gespag to achieve efficiency gains and cost reductions through optimised organisational processes, improved reporting capabilities, and a much better overview of business information. Services provided by HP include project management, analysis, architecture design, systems integration, customisation, data migration, implementation, training and ongoing mission-critical support.

• gespag wants to provide integrated healthcare at a regional level
• This requires a high degree of co-operation among the organisation's 11 hospitals and clinics
• To achieve this co-operation, a standardised enterprise software platform is required

• gespag decided to replace its existing ERP system with SAP R/3, initially implementing the FI, CO and MM modules and later SAP for Healthcare
• HP was given the responsibility of managing the implementation project, with services provided including analysis, architecture design, systems integration, customisation, data migration, implementation and training
• Systema Human Information Services also contributed to the delivery of SAP implementation, customisation and training, with additional SAP consultancy being provided by SoftSolution
• HP also provides mission-critical support for the on-going operations in the form of HP Critical Service and HP Critical Service for SAP
• The hardware platform is based around two HP Integrity rx8620 servers and an HP StorageWorks EVA5000 storage system

• Standardisation of the ERP platform and consolidation of master data have led to optimised organisational processes, more efficient reporting, and a much better overview of business information
• Less effort is expended on data maintenance because changes to master data only need to be made once
• While gespag's internal administrative function benefits directly from the efficiency gains and cost reductions that have been achieved, patient care is also expected to benefit in the longer term
• gespag now has an enterprise software platform that will meet its needs and support further development over the next decade
