When the City of Langford, one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia, Canada, needed a way to quickly access city documents, such as development applications, rezoning applications and building applications, it came to HP for solutions.
City of Langford Treasurer Steve Ternent, says, "Our city is growing very quickly and municipalities depend very heavily on documentation and on quick access to the documents."
Trina Cruikshank, planning assistant, City of Langford, comments, "It was often difficult to find a specific document you were looking for, and it would take a lot of time. Files get misplaced, documents get misplaced and if a plan was removed from the file and not put back, then it might be gone forever."
Computer Systems Administrator for the City of Langford, Mike Palmer, notes another major challenge: "We were physically running out of space to store paper files. We wanted to scan all our paper files electronically so that people could search for documents from their desk. We knew which direction we needed to go; we just needed to find a solution to get us there."
The "Voice of the Customer" video shows how HP helped the City of Langford deal with its growing pains and a mountain of paper documents with solutions such as HP multifunction printers, HP Autostore and Microsoft SharePoint.
The results? According to Palmer, the new solution set has saved the City of Langford an estimated 400 square feet of office space, and has allowed the city to eliminate between $90,000 and $100,000 in capital costs.
