The New Zealand Herald Schools Programmes - Rewarding Learning Minds

HP is proud to support the New Zealand Herald's Schools Programme - Rewarding Learning Minds. This year we are involved in both the primary and secondary schools programmes.

Primary and Intermediate Schools

The New Zealand Herald Make A Newspaper Programme is aimed at primary and intermediate schools throughout the North Island. This interactive programme requires students to make a 12 page newspaper based on ten different themes, which are provided by sponsors over ten weeks. The students also produce a double page spread which is based on their community or school.

After completed newspapers are submitted to The New Zealand Herald in Term 3, they are judged and the top twenty newspapers will win $5,000 each for their school.

Secondary Schools

The College Herald is the New Zealand's Herald Secondary Schools Programme. This is a four page colour section in The New Zealand Herald that showcases secondary school students’ work. The College Herald will be printed every Tuesday in school terms two and three. North Island students from years 9 - 13 (aged 13 - 18) are invited to submit a range of work to be published. Twenty pieces of work are published every week and the Heralds that contain the College Herald are delivered to schools as a resource for pupils.

Students are provided with resources and themes around which to submit work on. There is a $100,000 prize pool for students who participate and ten HP Notebooks will be awarded throughout the programme. For more information on this please visit www.nzherald.tx.co.nz/schools/.
