Every enterprise is faced with business challenges as part of their “way of life.” A common challenge is to handle periodic bursts of transaction processing at the end of their financial quarter or for heavier shopping at Christmas time. Many businesses are dealing with mergers and acquisitions that require expansion or consolidation. Some businesses are experiencing high growth like adding a large number of customers in a short period of time, even in today’s tough business climate.

BladeCluster Solution is a combination of new clustering hardware and associated software that delivers a major leap in NonStop’s traditional clustering capability. BladeCluster Solution makes it easy to cluster multiple NonStop systems, also called nodes, together in a tight interconnection using NonStop’s ServerNet III technology. This clustering technology provides the ability to cluster up to eight nodes within a data center and up to 125 meters between nodes. This local clustering is called a zone.

In a subsequent release, BladeCluster Solution will provide for clustering up to three zones together—for a total of 24 nodes closely and efficiently linked in one cluster. The inter-zone distance can be up to 25 kilometers. Note that each node can have up to 16 processors so that a single zone can contain up to 128 NonStop processors. And a fully-configured cluster with 3 zones can contain up to 384 NonStop processors. In addition, NonStop systems can cluster even more nodes together using high speed TCP/IP links, up to 4,080 processors.

With BladeCluster solution, for the first time, Telco customers with most stringent infrastructure requirements (such as NEBS standards) are able to cluster their systems over ServerNet technology to deploy innovative Telco architectures by separating call-processing (i.e. application) logic from their database. In addition to other benefits, this results in improved scalability and availability.

BladeCluster Solution is composed of several hardware and software products designed to work together out-of-the-box, reducing customer application development to take advantage of the clustering capability.

BL8155-14 Cluster Switch
BL8154 Advanced Cluster Hub
QSZL Single-zone software license
QIZL Inter-zone software license

The Cluster Switch is designed to interconnect HP Integrity NonStop BladeSystems as well as the NS16000 server family.

The performance of the BladeCluster Solution can be up to 16 times the previous NonStop ServerNet clustering approach.

Now, that’s a heck of a leap!
